DIGITALEUROPE, CECED and the WEEE Forum Launch « Information for Recyclers – I4R » Platform

On 28 February, producers and producer responsibility organizations launched an online platform to provide treatment, recycling facilities and preparation for re-use operators with access to WEEE recycling information.

Article 15 of Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) requires producers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) to provide information free of charge about preparation for re-use and treatment for each type of EEE placed on the market.

This provision, with slightly different wording, already existed at the time of the first WEEE Directive. Since 2005 producers have been collecting this information for each new product on their website on the basis of a harmonized reporting format agreed upon between CECED, DIGITALEUROPE and electronics recyclers EERA.

In an effort to better respond to recyclers’ needs for aggregated information at product group level, producers and producer responsibility organisations now decided to launch a common online platform – the Information for Recyclers Platform (I4R). This new platform will allow recyclers to access industry average information about the presence and location of materials and components that need separate treatment. The WEEE Forum will host and maintain the platform.

The platform will also allow for a more structured dialogue between producers and recyclers organizations.
